EU PACKAGING & PACKAGING WASTE REGULATION

Is your business ready for the new EU rules?

PPWR: What You Need to Know Now

The Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation – Regulation (EU) 2025/40 – has applied across the EU since 12 August 2026.

If you sell a packaged product under your own brand, the compliance documentation is now your responsibility, not your supplier’s. New substance restrictions also apply, including limits on PFAS in food-contact packaging.

The next major milestone is 1 January 2030, when the heaviest design requirements take effect.

Redesign and requalification take time, so it’s worth planning now – done well, it can also lower costs by optimizing material use and sourcing.

WHY NOW

2030 is closer than it looks

Packaging redesign and material requalification are not quick fixes. Testing, supplier changes and approvals all take time.

Below, we set out the key PPWR milestones and how Emendo can support your path to compliance, whether that means end-to-end support or help at a single step.
