GOOD STORIES

Improvement of Long-Term Capacity Planning

Our Improvement team and a prominent pharmaceutical industry leader joined forces to address persistent challenges in the client’s long-term capacity planning. The client faced recurring issues with imprecise planning and struggled to deliver to the promised capacity. We stepped in to navigate these complexities, ultimately improving the client's capacity planning.

THE CHALLENGE

From Misalignment to Solution-Oriented Collaboration

The pharmaceutical company faced challenges with a misalignment between short and long-term capacity planning. These difficulties were exacerbated by a lack of clear ownership and a simplistic planning tool that fell short in robustness and data adequacy. Varied models for different timelines further hindered integration, impacting the precision of production capacity and the ability to deliver the promised capacity.

Engaging closely with key stakeholders, we investigated and identified the client’s challenges, requirements, and aspirations. This investigation led to a deep understanding of the client’s specific processes and revealed the necessity for a new model to reach the desired precision and robustness in the planning process.

OUR APPROACH

An Integrated and User-Friendly Solution

Recognizing the importance of sustainability, our team designed a comprehensive capacity planning model. This solution integrated essential features, ensuring user-friendliness while maintaining adaptability and relevance.

The resulting model is not only user-centered but also transparent in terms of efficiency, aligning seamlessly with the complexity of the client’s scope and multiple production lines. The solution caters to both short and long-term needs, enabling a significant enhancement in capacity planning precision.

THE RESULTS

Continuous Guidance and Support

To ensure sustained relevance, our team worked closely with clients beyond the initial model presentation. The handover process was conducted through a comprehensive user guide and a series of meetings with the end-user, facilitating a smooth transition. As a dedicated partner, we placed the model’s ownership within the client’s organization, empowering them to manage it independently. Following the handover of the model, we stayed available for the client to provide external support and ensure the solution’s long-term success and effectiveness.

This collaboration between our Improvement team and the pharmaceutical industry leader highlights our commitment to empowering clients by co-creating solutions tailored to address complex challenges, resulting in an optimized long-term capacity planning tool that meets the client’s specific needs.
