When Danfoss, a leading Danish manufacturing company, needed an enhanced overview of their production processes, they turned to our Digital team for assistance. We designed a digital performance platform addressing the company’s specific needs, unlocking valuable insights through available data to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
THE CHALLENGE
Many larger companies experience difficulties when dealing with substantial amounts of data, making it challenging to implement process improvements – difficulties that can often be alleviated with a digital performance platform. In this case, Danfoss saw the potential of a more digitalized and effective production overview to better prioritize potential improvements.
The goal was to collect and analyze key parameters presenting them through intuitive dashboards and KPI measurements. This approach offers Danfoss a clearer overview of production processes, enabling faster and more effective decision-making.
OUR APPROACH
To provide an overview of production processes and enable fast and effective decision-making, we proposed a solution tailored to the specific requirements and objectives of Danfoss. In collaboration with Factbird, who provided a data collection tool, we leveraged historical data and offered different data views depending on the user’s role within the company.
Through close collaboration with both end users and stakeholders, we ensured the solution aligned with the needs and expectations of end users. We used a 5-step process to develop and customize the solution to fit Danfoss’ exact needs.
The first step was to identify the existing data landscape for relevant data sources within Danfoss. We reviewed and analyzed the available data sources, including production, inventory, machine status, and other relevant parameters.
After identifying the data landscape, we aimed for a deeper understanding of Danfoss’ production processes and workflow. To do this we spent time on the shop floor to understand the specifics of what the solution would be supporting and how.
An integral part of our approach was early involvement of relevant stakeholders to ensure that the design fit the needs of the user. Through meetings and workshops with employees at different levels and from various departments, we gathered their input and expectations.
Using our knowledge of the data landscape, processes, and stakeholder input, we developed a customized solution. This solution features a performance dashboard presenting relevant KPIs and measurements in an intuitive and easily understandable manner.
After completing the solution, we conducted testing to ensure everything functioned as expected. Once approved, we ensured a proper handover transferring the responsibility to the end users.
THE RESULTS
By identifying and leveraging the untapped potential of their data, Danfoss unlocked valuable insights, facilitating informed decision-making, and resulting in a more efficient and competitive operation.
The solution has been effectively employed in monitoring direct electric consumption, allowing for the shutdown of machinery during standby periods and the potential reduction of electric usage.
